Part 3 of 15

LED (little light) + − Long leg = plus (+) Short leg = minus (−) Flat side = minus

LED (little light)

A small light in 5 colors

In your kit: 10×

🔎 What is it?

An LED is a small light that uses very little power. Your kit has 10 LEDs in 5 colors. An LED only works one way, so you must put it in the right way around.

🔌 This is how you connect it

  • The long leg is the plus (+). It goes through a 220 Ω resistor to a pin on your Arduino.
  • The short leg is the minus (−). It goes to GND. On that side, the edge of the light is also flat.

Always use a resistor! Without a resistor, the LED gets too much current and breaks.

✨ What can you do with it?

  • A blinking light
  • A traffic light
  • A light that shows if something is on or off

💡 Tip

Does your LED do nothing? Turn it around. It only works one way.
